Late Roman mosaic flooring under the pavement of the Great Mosque of Córdoba

 

 

The city of Córdoba was ruled by the Romans from 152BC to the early 5th century. Material evidence of their presence includes an impressive Roman bridge spanning the Guadalquivir River, and the remains of a temple. This work featuring the geometric and interlacing patterns of this Late Roman mosaic flooring under the pavement of the Mosque demonstrates the ubiquity of such designs across cultures.
