Façade of the Great Mosque of Córdoba
This multi-color linoleum print is inspired by the façade of the Great Mosque of Córdoba. In this work we see the decoration above one of the portals added as part of the extension by Caliph al-Hakam II. Five interlacing blind horseshoe arches frame alternating panels of geometric mosaic and biomorphic stone carving that create a design rich in variety and rhythm.
The production of this print required carving separate blocks for the orange and grey sections, giving insights into the contrasting aesthetic forms present on the Mosque façade.
