Design based on cut-stone pattern from the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus

This twelve-pointed star design radiates out from a central star into larger dodecagons, within which yellow ochre squares seem to dance. Each tile shape has been rendered to give the effect of a different type of marble, including porphyry and serpentine.

I wish to thank artist and teacher Richard Henry (www.artofislamicpattern.com) for demonstrating this pattern at a workshop organized by Scripts n’ Scribes. Check out their website for more opportunities to learn about Islamic arts: www.scriptsnscribes.com
